Shahmaran appears in Anatolian and Middle Eastern tales as the wise ruler of snakes. In versions told around Tarsus she guards the secrets of nature in her underground garden.
Her friendship with Jamshab remains one of the most powerful symbols of trust and betrayal in Anatolian folklore.
