A Teke Zeybek on the Kabak Kemane
Transcript
Traditional melody of the Teke region played on the gourd-bodied kabak kemane.
The body of the kabak kemane is crafted from a dried, hollowed-out gourd covered with a thin membrane. The player holds the instrument vertically on the knee and bows it with horsehair.
Its warm, husky timbre is inseparable from the zeybek dances and lyric airs of the Teke region.
